In the fall of 2019, the Doug & Maria DeVos Foundation commissioned a survey from EPIC MRA to gauge the thoughts of West Michigan parents in Allegan, Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa counties. This survey provides great insights into parent attitudes toward career exploration and how their children are being prepared for what’s ahead. Listening to the voices of parents and guardians is important to understand where families are at when it comes to career readiness and exploration.
The survey covers most of the population in West Michigan and allows for an analysis by gender, level of education and income, and place of residence (urban, suburban, small town, and rural). The survey provides insight on critical topics such as jobs, college debt, the value of a college degree, perceptions on how area schools are preparing students for the future and the role of parents/guardians in career exploration.
